Research on the counter-drone market

We publish our research in full with the method alongside it. Every figure below is measured unless it is described as an industry estimate.

Finding 01

Search demand is small and concentrated in the United States

We harvested 4,800 US keywords for this market, removed unrelated terms and merged variant spellings. What remained was 1,531 keywords carrying 65,260 searches a month. Across a twelve-market comparison the United States accounted for roughly 55 per cent of measurable interest, followed by India at 6,010 a month and the United Kingdom at 4,180. Filtering affected the result substantially: 96 per cent of the raw harvest was unrelated, and a further 37 per cent of what remained was the same term spelled differently.

Finding 02

The highest-volume terms describe measures most buyers cannot operate

The two largest low-difficulty terms are anti drone gun and drone jammer, at 3,600 searches a month each. Both describe mitigation, which under current federal rules is limited to authorised agencies. Advertising rates reflect that. Mitigation terms clear at a median of $1.97 per click, detection terms at $3.83, and terms indicating vendor research at $6.69. Commercial value follows what organisations can lawfully buy and operate rather than what they search for.

Finding 03

The number of relevant organic results is low across the main terms

Across thirteen head terms, Google reported between 102 and 197 total results and returned 14 to 19 organic listings before exhausting them. Around one in five top-ten positions was occupied by unrelated content, including video and social results on terms such as counter uas and drone detection system. An AI Overview appeared on twelve of the thirteen. Where a field contains only a few hundred relevant documents, a page is more likely to be cited in generated answers than to attract significant click volume.

Finding 04

Suppliers publish pages for terms with no measurable volume

Drone detection system for prisons and prison drone detection both return zero measured monthly volume. Six established suppliers nonetheless maintain dedicated pages that rank on those terms. Those pages appear to serve as sales and credibility material rather than as traffic sources. That is a reasonable use, but it does not support a traffic forecast.

Finding 05

Advisory demand is small and is being shaped by regulation and funding

Across advisory, assessment, integration, managed services and procurement, measured demand totals around 140 searches a month, and integration, managed services and procurement each return zero. For comparison, security consultant returns 1,900 a month and cybersecurity consultant 4,400 at $33 per click. The SAFER SKIES rule took effect on 1 July 2026 and $500 million of federal funding has been appropriated. Both are shaping demand in ways that search volume does not yet reflect.

Finding 06

Templated page structures do not match how this market is searched

We built twenty templated keyword grids and measured every cell, 868 keywords in total. Grids combining a facility type with a detection term filled at 0 to 10 per cent across six phrasings. Grids for vendor comparison, vendor pricing, vendor alternatives, airport sightings and drone-model detection returned no volume. The only grids that filled were jurisdiction combined with drone law, at 96 to 100 per cent, and those carry a median cost per click of $0.09.

Method and limitations

What we measured, how we measured it, and where the data is weak.

  • Keyword and search-results data from DataForSEO, United States, September 2026.
  • Volumes are merged across variant spellings, so they are lower than a raw export and closer to actual demand.
  • Unrelated terms were removed by classifier. The excluded categories are weather radar, consumer drone photography, drone displays and delivery, radar detectors, and detection terms from other fields.
  • Regulatory statements are taken from the Federal Register, the FAA, the NRC and FEMA source documents rather than from secondary coverage.
  • Industry sizing figures are described as estimates where they come from market research rather than from our own measurement.
  • Search volume data has a reporting floor and rounds low-volume terms to zero, so the figures understate demand in a market where many relevant queries fall below that threshold.

Corrections

We correct this page as our understanding changes. One correction applies already. We previously described the prohibition on marketing and importing counter-drone equipment in the United States without qualification. Under the SAFER SKIES framework the FCC has waived those restrictions and granted temporary spectrum authority for eligible agencies. The restriction that remains applies to operating mitigation equipment rather than to supplying it.
